I’m tempted to move to India for a year. I’ve never visited however I have family staying in Kerala and Calcutta. I’d like to experience the incredible growth that’s going on there first hand. How’s broadband in India now?
Venture capital investment in India grew impressively during the second quarter of 2008. Between April and June, VCs invested a total of $238 million in 17 deals, up 120 percent from the $108 million invested during the same period last year, according to Dow Jones VentureSource. That makes it the second-highest quarter in VentureSource’s records.

Snoop has packaged himself up ready for Indian consumption it would seem. I like some rap, even some Snoop. But I’m really tired of hip hop culture so I’m hoping Snoop is a dog in India. Anyone have a sense of how popular thug life culture is in India now?
Its first project is with the new Bollywood film, Singh Is Kinng, that will hit movie theaters on Aug. 8 and stars Indian actor Akshay Kumar. The hip-hop tie-in involves Snoop Dogg starring in a music video alongside Kumar.
The music video was produced by CashmereAsia.com and will be released globally online on Tuesday.
“This is a mutual exchange of culture, pop culture, music and entertainment. For us, at the same time, via these creative partnerships, it creates business opportunities for brands,” said Ted Chung, chairman of Cashmere and also the president of Snoop Dogg’s Doggy Style Records.
Wadhera also underscored that every major consumer products company is now in India, including Unilever and P&G: “We are working to bridge the gap from creating, producing and developing interesting, marketable concepts and content to show advertisers the opportunities to attack a market that is growing at unbelievable levels and that has a massive propensity to spend. At the end of the day, that’s what it comes down to.”

comScore, Inc. (NASDAQ: SCOR), a leader in measuring the digital world, today released its first study of Internet usage in India, which reports that more than 28 million people in India age 15 and older accessed the Internet from home and work locations in May. This represents a 27-percent increase versus year ago, making India one of the fastest-growing Internet populations among the 37 individually-reported countries in the comScore World Metrix audience measurement service. Additionally, the fact that Internet users in India represent approximately only 3 percent of the population indicates significant potential for continued strong growth.
“India truly represents one of the most promising emerging Internet markets, given both the size and technological sophistication of the population,” said Jack Flanagan, comScore executive vice president. “While global Internet brands like Google and Yahoo! currently reign as the most visited Web properties in India, several local players also have strong positions in the market.”
Some findings from the study include:
• The average Indian Internet user visited the Internet 25 times during the month and was online for 28 minutes per visit.
• Those between the ages of 15-24 were the heaviest Internet users among all age segments, spending nearly 12 hours online per month on average.
• Some of the fastest growing Web site categories during the past year included Maps (up 64 percent), Sports (up 60 percent), Entertainment/Movies (up 55 percent), and Finance/News/Research (up 52 percent).
