According to PBS, China journalists notified authorities weeks before the news came out. This directive was issued during the Olympics.
China’s Propaganda Department — a censorship office that answers directly to the Communist Party’s Politburo — circulated a 21-point directive to the Chinese media on the eve of the Beijing Olympics declaring certain subjects off-limits for media coverage. Point 8 was very clear: “All subjects linked to food safety, such as mineral water that causes cancer, are off-limits.” In the face of worldwide distrust of the quality of its products, the Chinese government chose silence.
We’ve stopped buying ALL China foods. If it’s made in China, no thanks. Some of the produce we’re buying is probably still from China. This is hard to avoid when you are buying from a night market or place where there are no labels. We always wash produce off regardless of where we bought it. No more canned anything from China or any processed foods made in China.
Boycott food from China!
